Oppo sub-brand Realme will launch the eagerly awaited ‘Pro’ version of the popular Realme 2 smartphone. The Realme 2 Pro is the high-end variant of the entry-level Android smartphone series that challenges Xiaomi’s Redmi Series.
Oppo launched the second generation of the Realme smartphone earlier this year. The Realme 2 succeeds the Realme 1. Although Oppo has made many necessary and relevant upgrades, these smartphones are quite similar in terms of pricing. Both the generations fit perfectly in the entry-level and highly affordable Android smartphone segment. However, the Realme 2 Pro is an entirely different story altogether.
Oppo appears to be gearing up to launch a powerful Android smartphone that still sports an attractive price tag. Riding high on the success of the Realme sub-brand, Oppo might be following the footsteps of Xiaomi. The Chinese smartphone and electronics giant developed a special sub-brand named POCOPHONE and launched a truly budget flagship by the name of POCO F1. If previous reports, including a very revealing vide,o are to be believed, Oppo could be readying the Realme 2 Pro along the same lines.

Oppo has tried to protect the Realme 2 Pro from extensive leaks. However, quite a few critical details have continued to surface. Still, the Chinese smartphone company could offer more details with regards to the pricing and availability of the Realme 2 Pro.

The Realme 2 Pro will have a 6.3-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display with 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone will have a water drop notch and in effect boast of a higher screen to body ratio than the Realme 2.
According to recent reports, the Realme 2 Pro will have an octa-core Snapdragon 660 processor. The smartphone could arrive in two memory configurations: 6GB RAM + 64GB internal storage and 8GB RAM + 128GB internal storage. Moreover, the handset could also include a dedicated micro-SD card slot for memory expansion.
The Realme 2 Pro will feature a dual camera set up at the rear comprising of a 13MP primary camera and a 5MP depth-sensing camera. The cameras at the back will be accompanied by an LED flash. An 8MP camera for selfies and video calling will be present on the front. The camera units will come with AI-powered features like intelligent-scene-detection, portrait mode, and more.
A large 4,350mAh battery will power the Realme 2 Pro. There’s no confirmation yet about any Fast Charging support. Owing to the 660 chipset, the smartphone will have several connectivity options including Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Dual 4G VoLTE. Apart from the fingerprint scanner, there will be a Face Unlock feature as well.
The Realme 2 measures 156.2 x 75.6 x 8.2 mm and weighs in at 168 grams. We expect the Pro version will have similar dimensions. The Realme 2 Pro will run Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS 5.1 version out of the box.
Realme 2 Pro: Expected Price in India
Realme Chief Executive Officer Madhav Seth recently mentioned the Realme 2 Pro will be more expensive than the Realme 1. In other words, the smartphone will no longer fit in the entry-level pricing bracket, and will move on to the affordable or budget segment of Android smartphones.

Incidentally, the CEO further hinted the smartphone but will be priced below the Rs.20,000 mark. We expect the top-end variant of the Realme 2 Pro with 8GB/128GB memory configuration could cost between Rs.17,000 and Rs. 20,000. But the base variant of the Realme 2 Pro with 6GB/64GB configuration may start at somewhere between Rs.12,000 and Rs. 15,000.
At this price point, the smartphone will challenge the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, Xiaomi Mi A2, Nokia 6.1 Plus, and other popular budget Android smartphones available under Rs.20,000 in India currently. The smartphone will be a Flipkart-exclusive device.
